Well here goes! I'll start this thread about electric heli's.
As most of you who know me my first heli was a blade CP that I bought right after it was announced and no one told anyone it was not a beginners heli like the later introduced CX. So I was self taught like Jerry Brown. After many crashes I was finally able to master it. I then experimented with many upgrades to make it fly better and have now turned to the larger Trex SE.
The Trex flys much better in the wind unlike the Blade CP which is best suited for a no wind back yard site or indoors.
I also have a Helimax MX 450 that I bought before the Trex but the Trex is a far superior heli well thought out in every respect.
I now am experimenting with some simple 3D maneuvers using the flight sim as much as I can to build up my confidence.
Two things that were the most challenging to me in learning to fly the Helli was figuring out the programing of the 9C futaba. I think it was the best kept secret the radio manufactures held close at hand. I finally got through it with all the help from RC Groups and Run Rider. Once I got the radio thing worked out the flying was all about fun.
the second thing I had to deal with in learning to forward flight and head in flight was to acknowledge to my self you have to fly with both hands (both sticks) all the time at the same time. When we are flying fix wing ( flat boards they call it) we only use our left hand when setting throttle and a little rudder at take off. My flying some 3D planes helped a lot because when you are hovering a 3D plane you have to use a lot of rudder and elevator with throttle to maintain the hover. That really helped my learning curve with the heli.
John Wells a well accomplished 3D pilot has taught himself how to hover and forward fly his new little Blade CP on his own.
So I wanted to get this Heli sight started and if you or anyone else wants to share your thoughts please join in and lets talk Helis!
